It had to happen

When the Icelandic parliament got together today after Christmas break (yeah, I know…how long ago was your Christmas break over?) in the most turbulent and dire times in the history of the democracy.

This is what the legislative branch was scheduled to discuss on their first day back.

– Payments to organ-donors

– Should wines and beer be sold in grocery stores?

– Repayments of oil-and kilometertaxes for professional drivers

– Iceland’s opposition to rocket defences in Eastern Europe

–  Smoking-areas in restaurants.

– Priority lanes in the traffic

– and finally the one matter that concerns business affairs, discussion of gender-equality on boards of financial institutions.

But what had to eventually happen since the politicians refused to take responsibility for the economic crash, since the deals of the businessmen responsible have been exposed and since more and more people are loosing their jobs and seeing their debt skyrocket people started arriving to demonstrate.

And they have been arriving all day today.

And we are seeing the largest protest in Iceland since 1949. More later.
