Men with masks

I would like to direct attention to the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

It is the one about how some people turn into absolute fuckwads through anonimity on the web, through comments and blogs.

A disturbing trend has emerged with some of the protesters in Iceland lately. Some protesters think it is cool to hide their faces with masks, just like some people say things anonymously on the web.

It is not cool. It only displays fear.

Nobody should be ashamed of protesting against the government of Iceland, the members of parliament and the businessmen who have failed us. I don’t know if the story is true but it is a good one, of a group of elderly people sitting in a hot tub in one of Reykjavik’s swimming pools. Suddenly one of the CEO’s from the failed banks showed up and that’s when one lady faced up to him and told him this hot tub was intended for “the public” and promptly left. Others followed suit.

Somehow an old lady protesting in a swimsuit to someone’s face is much cooler than young men or old with masks.

On one hand i think the protesters should all have masks, since Big Brother has been known to film/photograph and register the protesters, and it’s any protesters duty not to make their job any easier. Also some people have been getting the cold shoulder from friends and relatives for “communing with the anarchists”.

On the other hand I think noone should wear a mask, as anyone can become a fuckwad hiding behind a mask.

Here’s a fun short story about a masked fuckwad (in Icelandic):
