I had forgotten about this video. This is the state-sponsored church in Iceland meeting in Reykjavik.
Of course the Dark Lord is watching over them.
That explains a lot about Geir Haarde’s cabinet.
“Students interested in economics and finance should closely follow this new Iceland saga, for it is the most dramatic story yet to illustrate how reckless bankers let loose in a free market can destroy entire economies.” – Uwe E. Reinhardt November 3, 2008
I had forgotten about this video. This is the state-sponsored church in Iceland meeting in Reykjavik.
Of course the Dark Lord is watching over them.
That explains a lot about Geir Haarde’s cabinet.
It is a talk that I have had with many people I know lately. Some who were senior people in big businesses, others who were lower level, and others who did not come near any business at all but have been watching from the outside.
“Maybe we are the idiots. Maybe the ones who profited from the system and those who enabled it are just so much smarter and more clever than us. At least they profited, lived in luxury and will never have to resign or face the music. Maybe we should just follow suit?”
And that is the worst consequence of no-one in the government resigning and the business people being bailed out. Geir Haarde’s and Ingibjorg Solrun’s legacy will be an ugly Iceland where everyone will be out for themselves, and themselves only.
In the wake of the financial crisis in Iceland, there should be a new field created in economics, Genealogy Economics.
Maybe it already exists but it would be the study of how families and friends connect to obtain positions of power and economic gain.
For example:
David Oddson Central Bank Governor and former prime minister as head of the Independent Party is the father of Thorsteinn Davidsson District judge who was appointed by Arni Mathiesen Finance minister who is the son of Matthias Mathiesen former minister for the Independent Party, in the absence of Bjorn Bjarnason Minister of Justice, who is the son of Bjarni Benediktsson former prime minister as head of the Independent Party.
Phew! One long sentence can hold a lot of connections.
Abroad this could be a study of how from 1980 you could see these names in the White House,
Bush VP-Bush VP-Bush P-Clinton P-Clinton P – Bush P – Bush P
Then you could have extended it into 2016 if Hilary Clinton had not faced Barack Obama. Chelsea for 2020 anyone? Jeb?
An interesting by-product of the censorship case at DV is the mud-slinging that is beginning in the press.
Agnes Bragadottir of Morgunbladid condemned the editors of DV with holy wrath when the story broke. They are hitting back and reminding their readers that when Arni Johnsen, Independent Party member of parliament was accused of theft eight years ago, Agnes orchestrated a false report in Morgunbladid with arranged photos that were supposed to prove his innocence.
The journalist community is generally a small one in the largest nations. Imagine how it is in this tiny country where every journalist has basically worked with all the other journalists and therefore they all know each others weak spots.
Everybody knew that Morgunbladid had covered up for Arni Johnsen at the time. The other accusation is more interesting though, DV says that Agnes has personally profited from FL Group without explaining it further.
When journalists collide, things are bound to be messy.
